Medical Division
The division is led by a head of department (HOD) and several Officers-in-Charge of the individual sub-units. Until very recently, the HOD was Brig General Adokwei Myers. The Acting HOD is currently Dr AO Charway Felli.
The main function of the division is to provide care for adult patients with diseases of internal organs in both out- and in- patient settings. Internal medicine – as this specialty is named – is led at the helm by physician specialists, supported by residents, Medical Officers (MOs), House Officers (HOs) as well as dedicated nurses and other allied health professionals.
The front-line is the Medical Emergency Unit (MEU) where, in collaboration with the Emergency medicine department, clients with acute, life-threatening and/or severe medical conditions are managed, stabilized and then transferred if required to the medical wards.
The Medical Out-Patient Department (MOPD) caters for those with non-communicable diseases including, but not limited to, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, chronic liver and renal disease, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease.
Within the MOPD aside from general internal medicine clinic that cater for the bulk of clients, we have specialty clinics in the following:
Dermatology
This clinic attends to clients – mostly adults with diseases of the skin such as Acne vulgaris, Rosacea, Tinea corporis, Dermatological malignancies amongst a wide range of others.
Respiratory Medicine/ Chest Clinic
This clinic attends to clients with pulmonary tuberculosis, bronchial asthma, Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease etc.
Neurology
This clinic attends to clients – mostly adults, but not only – with epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders, the dementia, chronic pain syndromes including headache and back pain, inflammatory/autoimmune diseases of the nervous system etc.
Diabetes Clinic
This clinic provides comprehensive care to clients with diabetes, the team includes dieticians, health advisers and helps navigate the journey of the person living with diabetes to the services that are required to optimize the management of diabetes mellitus.
Renal Clinic & Dialysis Unit
- The Renal Unit operates under the Medical Division of the hospital.
- The Unit is staffed by two Physician Specialists and two Medical Officers.
- Nursing leadership is provided by a Nursing Officer-in-Charge (NOIC).
- The NOIC is supported by the Ward In-Charge / Nurse-In-Charge in the coordination of nursing and dialysis services.

The Unit has eleven (11) haemodialysis machines, eight (8) of which are currently functional.

Inpatient and outpatient management of patients with kidney-related conditions.
o End-stage kidney disease (ESKD)
o Dialysis-requiring acute kidney injury (AKI)

Mode of Operation
- Nephrology services are provided primarily for in-patients admitted to the hospital.
- Renal outpatient clinics are conducted on Tuesdays from 8:00 am for patients with chronic kidney disease and other renal conditions.
- Dialysis Scheduling
Emergency dialysis sessions are provided as and when needed irrespective of timings and day.
For patients on maintenance dialysis, the scheduled days are:
- Mondays and Thursdays or.
- Tuesdays and Fridays or.
- Wednesdays and Saturdays.
The scheduled session timings are:
- 0600–1000 hours.
- 1100–1500 hours.
- 1600–2000 hours.
- 2000–2400 hours (night session).
Training and Professional Collaboration
Affiliated Institution
The Renal Unit provides collaborative care with the Ghana Armed Forces Critical Care and Emergency Hospital.
Therapy & Wellness
The Therapy and Wellness Department is the mental health unit of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF). It was established and elevated to a full department status in 2018.
The department is headed by Dr. Erica Danfrekua Dickson, a Physician Consultant Clinical Psychologist and past president of the Ghana Psychological Association.as well as dedicated nurses and other allied health professionals.
The department is powerfully staffed with 26 well-trained and ethical mental health professionals, of which 4 are specialist psychiatrists, 2 physician clinical psychologists, 13 clinical/health psychologists, 3 specialist psychiatric nurses, 2 general psychiatrist nurses and a public mental health officer.
The team manages all mental health issues within the military community and the civilian population across the lifespan. Most services are provided on an out-patient basis. We provide individual, group or family therapy, management of people with acute and chronic mental disorders, specialized care for substance use disorders, suicide, eating disorders, crisis intervention, stress and trauma related disorders, personality disorders, among others.
Mental health literacy services have been a pivotal contribution of the department to promote community and school mental health within the military community and outpatient attendees of the 37 Military Hospital. Liaison mental health supporting other medical sub disciplines is our hallmark and our professionals form part of a multidisciplinary teams that provide holistic care to patients.
Our services are mainly on appointment basis, except for mental health emergencies such as suicidal cases and other issues that need urgent intervention.
We train final year undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate psychology and medical students from Ghanaian public and private universities. International student attachments are offered selectively. The department provides psychology internship opportunities for professionals working towards their licensure with the Psychology Council.

Haematology Day Care
Leadership
The Haematology Day Care is led by Cdr E Sarkodie supported by Sqn Ldr Y Kalmoni, they are both members of the Ghana College of Physicians. Both specialists are committed to excellence in patient care, research, and training. The leadership provides strategic direction, ensures adherence to best clinical practices, and promotes continuous quality improvement.

- Operating Hours: Monday–Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

- Appointments: Patients are seen by referral or scheduled appointments through the outpatient clinic. Emergency and inpatient consultations are provided as required.
- Inpatient Services: Haematology consultations are available for admitted patients across the hospital.
