In-service Training Unit
The 37 Military Hospital In-Service Training Unit is one of the main branches of the Nursing and Midwifery faculty of the hospital. It plays a vital role in strengthening the capacity of nurses and midwives within the hospital, and interns and students who come to the hospital for their clinical experiences.Â
Leadership
The unit is headed by a Nursing Officer In-charge (NOIC) (Colonel) and supported by three (3) coordinators and a secretary. .
The unit is responsible for coordinating ongoing professional development activities to enhance staff knowledge, skills, and competencies and ensure high-quality patient care.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Organizing Continuous Professional Development (CPD):
Plan and coordinate in-service training programs, workshops, seminars, and refresher courses for nurses, midwives, nurse assistants and health assistants.
Identifying Training Needs:
Conduct training needs assessments in collaboration with departmental heads to identify skill gaps and prioritize relevant training programs.
Coordinating Staff Orientation:
Organize orientation and induction programs for newly recruited nurses and midwives, interns, and students to familiarize them with hospital policies, procedures, and standards.
Developing Training Materials:
Prepare and distribute educational resources, guidelines, and training manuals to support learning and professional development.
Monitoring and Evaluating Training Programs:
Assess the effectiveness of training activities through feedback, performance evaluation, and follow-up assessments to ensure continuous improvement.
Promoting Evidence-Based Practice:
Encourage staff to adopt current best practices in healthcare through updated clinical knowledge and skill development. Collaborate with Staff to identify nursing and midwifery problems and conduct research.
Maintaining Training Records:
Keep accurate documentation of all training activities, attendance, and staff development records for institutional reference and accreditation purposes.
Collaborating with Departments and Institutions:
Work closely with hospital departments, professional bodies, and academic institutions to facilitate specialized training and professional development opportunities.
