At the 37 Military Hospital, our Paediatric Division is dedicated to safeguarding the health and wellbeing of children from birth through adolescence. We combine compassionate care with clinical excellence, ensuring that every child receives the highest standard of treatment in a safe and supportive environment. With a team of experienced specialists, nurses, and trainees, we strive not only to heal but also to educate, making our department a trusted centre for both families and future healthcare professionals.

Leadership

The Paediatric Division is led by a dedicated team of healthcare professionals under the leadership of Lt Col Narteki Gyapong Osei, acting Head of Division. Each unit is managed by experienced specialists, ensuring excellence across all areas of care. Our nursing services are coordinated by DDNS Doris Avotri, the acting Nursing Officer in Charge (NOIC), supported by a skilled team of nursing officers and ward masters, including specialist paediatric and neonatal nurses.

Capabilities

As a tertiary facility, we are committed to delivering comprehensive paediatric care for children of all ages. Our division is equipped to manage a wide range of paediatric conditions, combining clinical expertise with compassion. Beyond patient care, we serve as a training hub for undergraduate medical students, postgraduate training for doctors, as well as paediatric and neonatal nurses.

We offer a broad spectrum of services designed to meet the needs of children and their families:

  • Emergency services.
  • Neonatal services.
  • In-patient services.
  • Outpatient services (general and specialist clinics).

The various units within the department are:

  • Paediatric Emergency Unit
  • Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU
  • Outpatient Departments
  • Children’s Ward

Mode of Operations

  • The Paediatric Emergency Unit (PEU) and NICU operate 24/7. The PEU welcomes both walk-in patients and referrals from other health facilities.
  • The NICU provides specialised care for neonates from our maternity unit and external referrals.
  • Outpatient Clinics run weekdays from 0730hrs to 1330hrs, offering a variety of specialist services including:
    • Epilepsy Clinic
    • Cardiac Clinic
    • Neurology Clinic
    • NICU Follow-up Clinic
    • Infectious Disease Clinic
    • Renal Clinic
    • Endocrine Clinic
    • Sickle Cell Clinic
    • Asthma Clinic
    • General Paediatric Clinic

Training Capabilities

We are recognised as a centre of excellence for paediatric training for:

  • Undergraduate medical students (Family Health University and foreign-trained medical students)
  • Postgraduate residents (Ghana College of Physicians and West African College of Physicians)
  • Postgraduate residents, Paediatric and Neonatal nurse specialists (Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives)
