The Paediatric Division of the 37 Military Hospital launched the 2026 Neonatal Jaundice Awareness Month on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at the premises of the Paediatric Out Patient Department (POPD).

Speaking on the theme for this year’s celebration ‘’ Jaundice Care for every new born anywhere’’, a Paediatrician of the POPD Maj Kofi Otchere stated that the celebration is marked to create awareness of Jaundice in newborn babies, educate nursing mothers and screen the newborn babies from Tuesday, May 19, 2026 to Friday, May 22, 2026.

Maj Otchere mentioned that Neonatal jaundice is yellowing of a newborn’s skin and eyes caused by high levels of bilirubin in the blood and said that in Ghana, May has been set aside to create awareness of the disease in the various health facilities in the country and added that staff of the division would go to the various Out Patient Departments (OPDs) especially maternity, Paediatric emergency, Obstetrics and Gynaecology division and the Paediatric ward to educate both potential and nursing mothers on the disease.

Also present were paediatricians; Dr Ama Dapaah-Afriyie, Dr Eva Odukwe, some doctors and staff of the division.
