The Out-going Commander of the 37 Military Hospital Maj Gen Evelyn-Vivian Abraham -Kwabiah has handed over command to the in-coming commander of the 37 military hospital Brig Gen Richard Lassey Mensah on Friday, July 17, 2026 in a brief but colourful ceremony held at the forecourt of the hospital’s Boardroom.
Maj Gen Abraham-Kwabiah, the out-going commander of the hospital signed the handing and taking over notes together with the in-coming commander Brig Gen Richard Lassey Mensah and the Chief of Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces Air Vice Marshall Joshua Lartei Mensah-Larkai.
The Chief of Staff (COS) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Air Vice Marshall Joshua Lartei Mensah-Larkai in his remarks congratulated the out-going commander of the hospital for her dedication, commitment, and professionalism during her tenure and added that she continued with the good work as the substantive Deputy Chief of Staff Medical (DCOS MED) at the Ghana Armed Forces Health Services (GAFHS)Headquarters.
‘’As you step into this chapter, may you thrive with excellence through your guidance, excellence and teamwork since they ensure success”, he added.
The out-going commander of the facility Maj Gen Abraham-Kwabiah in her remarks expressed her sincere appreciation to every member of the GAFHS for the unwavering support given throughout her tenure as commander and the Generals who often stood in for her when she was away on other official assignments.
‘’I firmly believe that a leader is made by his or her dedicated, committed, and loyal followers. Whatever success we achieved were not mine alone, they were ours. None of you rested on your oars. You gave your all, sacrificed your time, and committed your talents to ensuring that our mission was successful”, she emphasized
Maj Gen Abraham-Kwabiah said that the year took them through some challenges such as the Nationwide Nurses’ industrial action, the helicopter crash, the unfortunate stampede, the Burkina Faso tragedy among others but these tragedies tested our resilience, professionalism and commitment to service.
The in-coming commander Brig Gen Mensah thanked God for his guidance and said he was grateful to the military high command for the confidence imposed in him to be the commander of this noble facility.
He pledged his unwavering support in addressing areas that requires attention and also to continue the legacy of his predecessor that has already been established and assured that with teamwork, dedication and commitment, excellent healthcare would be delivered to all.
Meanwhile, the acting Commanding Officer of the hospital Col Alex Abit also took over of the symbol of Baton as the substantive CO of the hospital. In his address, he thanked all for the support given him over the years and assured all personnel of giving out his best for the benefit of the hospital as a whole.
In attendance during the ceremony were the President of the National Defence University Air Vice Marshall Felix Adom Asante, Commander GAF Critical Care and Emergency Hospital Brig Gen Thomas Aquinas Gbire, Head of Department Obstetrics and Gynaecology Brig Gen Richard Naab, some senior officers, officers and Defence Civilian Staff of the formation.
